Adam Sandler has paid tribute to late heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away at the age of 76 years old earlier this week. Osbourne had just performed his final concert with his band Black Sabbath just a few weeks prior.

On Tuesday, July 22, it was announced that Ozzy Osbourne, the lead singer of the seminal heavy metal band Black Sabbath, had passed away at the age of 76 years old.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time,” his family said in a statement.

Sandler, who met Osbourne while making his comedy film Little Nicky, shared a photo of the pair on social media and paid touching tribute to the rocker.

“Whether we were in our basements with our brothers, in the woods with our buddies, in the car, at a keg party, on a boat, at football practice, at a sleepover… Nobody was more badass to crank up on our speakers than the one and only prince of darkness – Ozzy Osborne! Loved him a lot like we all did! Sending love to the family and so happy to have spent time with the legend himself. RIP,” Sandler wrote on social media accompanied by a photo of the heavy metal legend in his film Little Nicky

Little Nicky was released in the year 2000, and although panned by critics and considered to be a box office bomb, the movie has become a cult film among the millennial generation given its strangeness, as it tells the story of the son of Satan, Sandler, who is tasked with returning his two brothers to Hell and preventing them from destroying the boundary between good and evil on Earth.

Alongside Sandler and the cameo from Osborne near the film’s end, Little Nicky also starred Patricia Arquette, Harvey Keitel, Tommy “Tiny” Lister Jr., Rhys Ifans, Rodney Dangerfield, Allen Covert, Kevin Nealon, Jon Lovitz, Michael McKean, and Quentin Tarantino.
