Alec Baldwin hopes the Western film Rust, the movie he stars in that resulted in the death of cinematography Halyna Hutchins during its production in October 2021.

Baldwin was facing involuntary manslaughter charges in relation to the death of Hutchins earlier this year but had the charges thrown out due to a clerical error with submitting evidence.

Hutchins, a cinematographer, died at the aged of 42 years old after she was accidentally shot and killed by real bullet in a prop gun that was being wielded by Baldwin.

Speaking at the Torino Film Festival in Italy earlier this month, Alec Baldwin indicated that while he hopes the film gets released, he has no intention of seeing the final cut.

“This is obviously the most difficult thing I’ve ever dealt with in my life,” Baldwin told Variety. “Beyond the victims themselves, the thing that most pains me is what it did to my wife … We are trying to get the wind in our sails, to get away from this stuff. Because the film doesn’t stand by itself. It’s always going to be overshadowed by this.”

“But, again, I hope the film is released, that it comes out. That it makes its money back for its investors. You never want these people who believed in your project to be left high and dry. And I hope the movie is sold, and that he [Matt Hutchins, Halyna’s husband] gets his money. We all made a deal with him and we all want to follow through. But this idea that people — who shall remain nameless — say, ‘You are profiting from this!’ That is absolutely wrong.”

Baldwin, 66 years old, is best known for his work in both film and television, starring in famed projects such as Beetlejuice, The Hunt for Red October, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Departed, and 30 Rock. Most recently, Baldwin Jr. played Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on the newest season of Saturday Night Live.

Since the incident on the set of Rust, Baldwin has starred in just four live-action films, all of which were B-movies: Supercell, 97 Minutes, Atrabilious, and Crescent City. He also had a voice cameo in Todd Field’s 2022 film Tar and has a reality TV show called The Baldwins set to premiere on TLC next year.
