The first trailer for the upcoming meta remake of Anaconda has been released. Jack Black and Paul Rudd star in the film, which sees a pair of friends attempt to recreate the movie Anaconda, only to get attacked by an actual anaconda.

Directed by Tom Gormican, who last helmed The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent with Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal, Anaconda is set to be released in movie theaters in the United States on Christmas Day. Gormican also directed the 2014 film That Awkward Moment and wrote the script for the recent Beverly Hills cop movie, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.

The film is taking a meta approach to its IP as it sees Jack Black’s and Paul Rudd’s attempting to remake the original 1997 film, which starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Jonathan Hyde, and Owen Wilson. Alongside Black and Rudd, Selton Mello, Daniela Melchior, Thandiwe Newton, and Steve Zahn are also set to star in the 2025 remake.

Here is the official synopsis for Anaconda, via Sony Pictures:

“Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd) have been best friends since they were kids, and have always dreamed of remaking their all-time favorite movie: the cinematic ‘classic’ Anaconda. When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they head deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things get real when an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic movie set into a deadly situation. The movie they’re dying to make? It might just get them killed.”

It’s been a busy year for both Black and Rudd, with Black starring in the year’s highest-grossing movie (A Minecraft Movie), while Rudd has already starred in the A24 films Death of a Unicorn and Friendship.
