Atlanta Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents recently seized 4,000 pounds of liquid meth worth more than $36 million. The drugs were reportedly being stored in large trash containers with several of them labeled as “acetone.”

News4Jax reports that during the DEA raid, agents also seized 158 pounds of crystal meth that had already been solidified.

“It’s just crazy to think of the potential for that amount of drugs to be on our streets,” Crime and Safety Analyst Tom Hackney said. “You could go all the way down to the Florida Keys with that much volume.”

Hackney added that the seized meth being as pure as it was and being worth millions of dollars will certainly attract violence.

“You’ve got to protect your investment,” he said. “You’ve got to protect your interest, and that comes with violence. So yes, there’s going to be gunplay.”

Meanwhile, on April 20 at the Eagle Pass International Bridge in Texas, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations officers busted a 46-year-old female Mexican citizen driving a 2000 Dodge pickup carrying nearly 1,149 pounds of alleged liquid methamphetamine. The drugs were concealed within an external fuel tank.

The drug seizure occurred following a thorough examination that included a non-intrusive inspection system scan of the vehicle. The seized narcotics had a street value of more than $10.5 million.

“Our frontline CBP officers maintained strict vigilance, utilized high tech tools and took down a significant amount of liquid methamphetamine,” said Port Director Pete Beattie, Eagle Pass Port of Entry. “Seizures like these illustrate perfectly CBP’s ongoing commitment to upholding CBP’s border security mission and protecting our communities.”

That massive drug seizure comes on the heels of two other big liquid meth busts. Last month, CBP agents in Murrieta, California made their largest single methamphetamine seizure over the past two years when they discovered 761 pounds of liquid meth inside the fuel tanks of a tractor-trailer. Prior to that, CBP officers at the Roma Port of Entry in Texas seized more than $20 million in liquid meth that was being smuggled within a tractor-trailer hauling bottled mineral water.
