For millions of AT&T customers across the U.S., the past year has been a rollercoaster of unsettling headlines. First came major data breaches that compromised sensitive personal information. Now, the news of a massive $177 million legal settlement that could pay out thousands of dollars per person.

As the clips go viral, many AT&T users are left asking: Is this real, and what do I actually need to do?

TikTok creator Lila (@lilasaves) is partially known for her content around settlements. In a viral TikTok with more than 18,000 views, she breaks down what AT&T customers need to know about this latest data breach.

AT&T Customers, Listen Up

“AT&T was sued. So if you’ve been getting a crazy amount of spam calls every day, this is for you,” Lila says.

She explains that two major data breaches left nearly all of AT&T’s customers vulnerable. Personal information such as call records, texts, birth dates, and phone numbers was potentially exposed.

According to Lila, AT&T has now agreed to pay out a $177 million settlement. Some individuals can get up to $5,000, depending on their circumstances.
Lila shared that she immediately checked the Settlemate App, where the case already has a placeholder page with the note “coming soon.” She adds that claim submissions are expected to become available in early August. She urges viewers to set up notifications so they don’t miss the chance to apply.

“I ran when I saw this pop up on the Settlemate app,” she says. “Honestly, money aside, I just need the spam calls to stop somehow. It’s driving me insane.”
She encourages her audience, especially those who are AT&T customers, to check the Settlemate app or the official site.

“Trust me, you don’t wanna miss out on this one,” she says.

Viewers were excited about the notion of taking part in the settlement.

“They leaked my ssn and im not even an account holder im gonna call monday and see if i qualify,” a commenter shared.

“I get at least 25 spam calls an hour but i didn’t [get] the email,” another wrote.

What Are The Facts On The AT&T Settlement?

Lila was partially right. There is a $177 million settlement tied to two major AT&T data breaches. But impacted individuals may be eligible for up to $7,500, not just $5,000 (more details below), CBS News reported.

  • First breach: It was disclosed in March 2024 and compromised the personal information of 73 million current and former AT&T account holders, including Social Security numbers and birth dates, after the data appeared on the dark web.
  • Second breach: It was announced in July 2024. This breach was even broader, exposing records of calls and texts from nearly all AT&T cellular customers after hackers accessed data from a third-party cloud platform.

After multiple lawsuits were filed nationwide, the cases were consolidated into two class actions.

On Aug. 4, the settlement administrator, Kroll Settlement Administration, announced a proposed agreement totaling $177 million: $149 million for the first settlement class and $28 million for the second.

A federal judge in Texas must still approve the settlement, with a hearing scheduled for Dec. 3, 2025.

How Do I Know If I’m Eligible?

Check your email. Eligible customers are being notified by email and can submit claims online through Nov. 18, 2025.

How Much Am I Eligible For? And When Will Payments Go Out?

Those affected by the March 2024 breach may receive up to $5,000 for documented losses, while customers in the July 2024 breach may receive up to $2,500.
People impacted by both breaches could be eligible for a maximum of $7,500.

However, customers must provide documentation proving their losses are directly tied to the breaches, and filing a claim waives the right to sue AT&T separately.

Payments won’t go out until at least December, pending final court approval and any possible appeals.
