Stand-up comic Nikki Glaser crushed her opening monologue as the host of this year’s Golden Globes and definitely crossed the line of what network executives were comfortable with seeing on TV. That’s why it was a bit disappointing to hear that Nikki Glaser cut jokes from the opening monologue that were deemed to offensive or risky for the crowd.

Appearing on The Howard Stern Show the day after hosting the Golden Globes, Nikki Glaser revealed to Howard that she keeps a ‘Stern File’ of jokes that she could share with him but that were too offensive or risky for the live TV audience. Interestingly, there was at least one joke (about Nicole Kidman) that she cut because she was afraid of how Nicole Kidman might react and if she’d ‘make a face’ and ruin the flow.

Here is Nikki Glaser revealing the best cut joke that were written for the Golden Globes but never appeared:

First up, there’s no reason she couldn’t have included that Dak Shepard joke. It’s not like he’s Hollywood royalty even if his wife is. And everyone’s aware of his need to get A-List guests on the show. That joke would’ve played well but at the same time would’ve felt like she was maybe taking punches at the ‘little guy’ in the crowd.

The Diddy jokes that made it to live TV felt like an accident. I was surprised that someone at CBS signed off on those at all so it was interesting to learn that Nikki Glaser cut some Diddy jokes from the broadcast.

One joke that made it to the broadcast was aimed at Glen Powell. It went “Glen Powell, what a year you’ve had! Glen, you were in everything, Twisters, Hit Man, my head when I’m having sex with my boyfriend, thank you so much for the assist, I’ll see you tonight.” Interestingly, there are rumors floating around that another edgy Glen Powell joke was cut.

It isn’t in the clip above but somewhere else in the full Howard Stern interview floating around. The joke goes “Glen Powell is nominated tonight for Hit Man. Who would have thought that by the end of the year, you’d only be the second hottest hit man in America.”

Nikki Glazer went on to say that one was cut because “Luigi was a big deal for a while, and then it kind of faded and took a while for people to get it.” That seems… misguided. Luigi Mangione is still as relevant as ever in the media there just isn’t nearly as much news about him as there was a few weeks ago.

Anyway, Nikki Glaser cut a lot of jokes from the Golden Globes broadcast. I think many of them would’ve played well on TV. It will be interesting to see if she’s invited back to host again and she’ll push the envelope further next time.
