Former Succession star Brian Cox has become the latest actor to throw their support behind Kevin Spacey, who has been blackballed from Hollywood since 2017 after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and assault.

Earlier this year, a report in The Telegraph quoted the likes of Liam Neeson and Sharon Stone, who both ardently supported Kevin Spacey getting a second chance in the entertainment business.

While Spacey was accused of multiple crimes, he was never formally convicted of anything and has denied the allegations against him.

“He’s sensitive, articulate and non-judgmental, with a terrific sense of humor. He is also one of our finest artists in the theatre and on camera. Personally speaking, our industry needs him and misses him greatly,” Neeson said earlier this year.

“I can’t wait to see Kevin back at work. He is a genius. He is so elegant and fun, generous to a fault and knows more about our craft than most of us ever will,” added Sharon Stone. “It’s terrible that they are blaming him for not being able to come to terms with themselves for using him and negotiating with themselves because they didn’t get their secret agendas.”

Other actors who quoted in The Telegraph sharing their support of Spacey were F. Murray Abraham (who was fired from Rob McElhenney’s AppleTV+ series Mythic Quest for his own sexual misconduct allegations) and Stephen Fry.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter to promote The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, an animate prequel to the Lord of the Rings films, Cox became the latest veteran A-lister to back Spacey. Spacey and Cox starred together in the 1994 film Iron Will.

“I just think Kevin had certain things which he couldn’t or didn’t admit to, and I think it was a strain on him in many ways. And for me, that was Kevin’s only difficulty. But he’s a very fine actor, and I like Kevin a lot,” Cox said.

“I think he’s been through it. He’s had the kicking that some people think he deserved. He’s ready to get back in the saddle again, and people are trying to stop him from doing that. And I really do go back to, ‘Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.’ Maybe he got too out of hand, but I don’t think he should be punished endlessly for it. There should be a case of forgive and forget. Let’s move on. I think he should be given the opportunity to come back to work,” he continued.

Earlier this year, Spacey starred in his first American-produced film since crashing out of Hollywood, the little-seen thriller Peter Five Eight.

Spacey been working in Italian cinema in recent years, with his latest project, The Contract, premiering at the Cairo Film Festival back in November. In that film, Spacey plays a character called “The Devil.” Spacey has also appeared in the Italian film The Man Who Drew God in 2022 and the British independent film Control in 2023.
