A video of Chick-fil-A workers prepping the chicken for a sandwich has viewers questioning the restaurant’s methods.
In a viral TikTok with 2.2 million views, Steve Amilcar (@steve.amilcar) demonstrates how to make a Chick-fil-A sandwich. He begins by trimming the excess fat off a piece of raw chicken breast. Then, he flattens the meat by putting it through a roller. Next, he dips it in liquid before covering it in “coater,” or seasoned flour.
He then places several pieces on a transfer tray before putting them on a wire rack above a fryer. His co-worker drops the chicken into the oil as the on-screen caption declares it the “only time where double Dipping is acceptable.” The co-worker closes the lid of the fryer, and Amilcar washes his hands (which had previously been gloved) before the video ends.
‘Wait It’s Real Chicken?’
In the comments section, one thing took viewers by surprise: Chick-fil-A actually uses raw chicken breast.
“Oh it’s fresh?” one asked.
“I forgot they actually have to make the food…” a second said.
Others said this is more common than one might think.
One wrote, “Any place that specializes in chicken usually the chicken is always made fresh, Popeyes, chik-fil-a, Raising Canes etc.”
A second lamented, “I work at bojangles, all I do is bread and fry chicken. Its mad annoying sometimes.”

Is Chick-fil-A Chicken Actually Fresh?
Tasting Table notes that while Chick-fil-A’s chicken comes frozen, it is thawed for 24 hours before being cooked. So, by the time it reaches you, it was cooked fresh from raw and not frozen. It is then hand-breaded, as seen in the video.
