A source close to Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR executive Kristin Cabot now claims that despite appearance, they weren’t having an affair. The couple being wrapped in an tight embrace with one another at a Coldplay concert at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. was somehow misconstrued by practically everyone.
The sticky situation (both of them were married to other people at the time), which went about as viral as a story can go, ended up with Byron tendering his resignation. On the plus side, as his temporary replacement Pete DeJoy pointed out, “Astronomer is now a household name.” As for Cabot, she also resigned and would later file a petition for divorce on Aug. 13.
This week, four months after they were caught on camera canoodling to Coldplay, a source close to Kristin Cabot filled in some of the details to People.
Something like this ‘could happen to any of us’
First, the source now claims, “Kristin and Andy had an excellent working relationship, a great friendship. There was no affair. It was inappropriate to be hugging your boss at a concert, and she accepts full responsibility for it. But the scandal, the downfall, the loss of the job — all of that is unfair.”
So she shouldn’t have had to resign, but they weren’t having an affair. Got it.
“It is important to note how inappropriately mislabeled Kristin has been — as a homewrecker,” the source added. “It’s unfathomable to witness what has happened, and how devastating it can be, for not just individuals, but entire families. All I can think of is that this could happen to any of us at any time. I think all of the misinformation has been the most mind-blowing to witness.”
Saying that it “could happen to any of us at any time” is a bit of a stretch, but sure, whatever.
For what it’s worth, Kristin Cabot and her husband “had been living apart” at the time of the Coldplay kerfuffle. She and Byron were also not there as part of a company event.
“There was no company box. It was a night with a big group of friends and an inappropriate moment,” the source stated.
