There is no denying that bacon is one of the most popular food choices in America. Reportedly, over 68% of food places feature the crispy delicacy on their menus. This begs the question: Is there such a thing as unappetizing bacon? According to one Dunkin’ worker, there sure is.

In a clip with 1.6 million views, TikTok creator @turtlelov3r8 stands in the kitchen at Dunkin’ with a container full of heavily seasoned bacon. “Dunkin bacon is lowkey made of car crash victims,” they write in the text overlay.

Their video features bacon that more closely resembles Beggin’ Strips—a comparison made by Dunkin’ customers in the past.

Repulsed, @turtlelov3r8 adds in the caption, “I’m not eating this.”

What Do Viewers Think?

Although the comments section was divided, many unanimously agreed the appearance was unsightly.

“Dunkin Donors,” the top comment from Christine, with more than 37,000 likes, joked.

A former Dunkin’ employee echoed the same thoughts as @turtlelov3r8, writing, “No because i used to say this all the time when i worked there.”

Despite the criticism regarding the bacon’s appearance, some shared that they still enjoyed the taste.

“And i will still eat it all,” one commenter stated.

“Soo good tho,” a second said.

Why Does Dunkin’ Bacon Look Like That?

It all boils down to the type of bacon they use and how it’s prepared. Applewood bacon is one of the most popular bacon choices in the food industry. However, Dunkin’ opts for cherrywood bacon instead. Unlike applewood, which has a blend of mild sweetness and savory flavors, cherrywood is sweeter with a fruity taste and a rosy tinge, according to Bacon Today.

So the bacon is supposed to be smoked and candied-like. The company also adds extra sweetness to it via the seasonings it uses. Dunkin’ coats the meat in sweet maple sugar, giving it a caramelized flavor, according to its website.

All of these factors give Dunkin’s bacon a distinct look and flavor.

In addition to its normal bacon, the coffee chain has temporarily brought back its sweet pepper bacon. That limited-edition flavor is seasoned with brown sugar and black pepper.
