A food blogger took his Tesla on a trip to Elon Musk’s favorite restaurant in Austin, Texas. Perhaps unsurprisingly, his review did not go over well with the locals.
TikTok user Troy (@troytriesthings) posted a review of 1618 Asian Fusion in Austin on Aug. 8. “If it’s good for the richest man alive, it’s probably good enough for us,” Troy says to start the video. “So Oscar and I hit Elon Musk’s favorite restaurant and ordered his exact go-to meal.”
What Does Elon Musk Order From 1618 Asian Fusion?
The first course is the pho rib. “Pho, but turned up a notch,” Troy says. He notes the savory broth, silky noodles, and all the traditional toppings. But, of course, the star of the show is a giant rib. “First thought? Elon, you dog. I’m only two bites in, and I’m already considering writing a ‘thank you’ note to the chef.”
The next course is the pineapple fried rice, which is served in a hollowed-out pineapple bowl. “I mean, that’s beautiful. Look at the presentation,” Troy says. “Some are calling it the Cybertruck of the menu. It’s everything you love about fried rice with a pineapple flair. Don’t sleep on the hidden shrimp in there.”
If the pineapple fried rice is the Cybertruck of the menu, what Tesla vibe does the filet mignon green curry give off? “This is the Model S,” Troy says. “Tender filet mignon. The curry sauce is so rich. Well, it is Elon.”
In conclusion, Troy says, “We just checked out Elon Musk’s favorite restaurant in Austin, Texas. The same guy that sends people to Mars sends people here. If you haven’t tried this place yet, take your Model S—your Model X, your Model Y, your Prius—and get here ASAP.”
Viewers React To The Elon Musk-Centric Food Review
In the comments, Austin foodies weighed in with their thoughts on 1618 Asian Fusion, Elon Musk, and the merits of the review itself.
One person said the factoid ruined their enjoyment of the restaurant. “This is disappointing to hear, because I actually like 1618,” they wrote.
“Not a selling point,” said a second person.
“The only high-end Asian restaurant in Austin that’s good and worth it,” argued another Austin restaurant-goer.
Someone else said, “I don’t understand the Cybertruck reference. It looks like a mobile dumpster, but the pineapple rice is beautiful and fancy.”
And at least one person questioned the veracity of this trivia. “Source: Trust me, bro,” they wrote.
@troytriesthings 📍1618 Asian Fusion – Austin, TX Try Day Friday 🍜⚡️ We tried Elon Musk’s favorite restaurant in Austin, Texas—and ordered his exact go-to meal. Because if it’s good enough for the richest man on Earth (and maybe Mars), it’s good enough for us. 1618 isn’t just a restaurant. It’s part lounge, part Asian-fusion laboratory. Elon’s order? Pineapple fried rice, filet mignon green curry, and pho so loaded it could power a Tesla—soft-boiled egg, every garnish in the book, and a rib that barely fit in the bowl. Oscar was so charged up after the first bite he started speaking in binary. He may not be a billionaire yet but for a meal.. Oscar ate like one. Before the check even dropped, he was googling lease prices for cyber trucks. #TroyTriesThings #TryDayFriday #ElonMusk #AustinEats #1618AsianFusion #Pho #Foodie
Is This Really Elon Musk’s Favorite Austin Restaurant?
Insight into Musk’s Austin culinary haunts stems from a couple of different sources. One is a Financial Times article, published in 2022, that reveals Musk’s favorite Mexican restaurant in Austin is Fonda San Miguel.
The other source is Musk himself. The Adventurist recaps Musk’s discussion of where he likes to eat in Austin during an interview on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Fonda San Miguel is indeed No. 1 on the list, and 1618 Asian Fusion is second. The other Austin restaurant mentioned was Sushi by Scratch.
