Actress Emma Watson will need to rely on public transportation and private drivers for the next six months.

The ‘Hermoine’ actress has been banned from driving after she was caught speeding in Oxford, England. While she did have existing points on her license, she was only going a few miles per hour over the speed limit which makes this seem like a harsh punishment.

According to a report from the BBC News, Emma Watson was pulled over going 38 miles per hour in a 30 MPH zone. She was caught speeding on July 31st of last year in Oxford, England and the case has just now worked its way through the courts.

Emma Watson Can’t Drive For 6 Months, Harsh?

At the time she was caught speeding by a mere 8 miles per hour, Emma Watson reportedly had 9 points on her license. Those can be accrued by any number of infractions (running stop signs, parking violations, toll violations, speeding, etc).

Watson has been in Oxford pursuing a master’s degree in Creative Writing at the University. She has been working toward her post-graduate degree since 2023 and is a fixture around Oxford.

While she’s been at Oxford University, Emma Watson has joined the crew team and is the coxswain of the women’s third boat. A prestigious honor at one of the oldest universities and most famous crew teams in the world.

Getting around without a license

Ultimately, 6 months without a driver’s license should not impact Emma Watson’s life all that much. She remains wealthy from her childhood acting in the Harry Potter series.

Celebrity Net Worth estimates that Emma oversees an $85 million fortune.

She can certainly afford Ubers and private drivers if needed. But this is England and there’s no shortage of public transportation (trains, buses) to get around.

Coincidentally, BBC News points out that Emma Watson speeding isn’t unique to the Harry Potter world. Another actress from the franchise, Zoe Wanamaker who played Madam Hooch, lost her license for six months for speeding.

In addition to losing her license for six months for speeding and points accrued, Emma Watson was ordered to pay a £1,044 fine at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court.
