Many people expect construction work to be tough. But no one should have to risk their health just to get to a job site. A TikTok posted by a Louisiana resident is sparking outrage after showing construction workers left unnecessarily exposed to extreme heat in the back of a pickup truck.
The video has drawn attention and raised questions about how the Florida-based company treats its workers.
Hamilton Bros. Roofing Called Out
In a viral video with more than 1.2 million views, @sharevideos4 shared what they saw while seemingly being stopped at a red light.
In the video, the filmer pulls up next to a white pickup truck with the logo for Hamilton Bros. Roofing and contact information.
“We got a white man in his car. Nobody’s in there. And then he has his workers just in the back, in the hot-a– sun. It’s like 90 degrees out here,” @sharevideos4 says, stressing the worker could be at risk of heat-related illness.
The camera clearly shows a person sitting in the driver’s seat, scrolling on his phone, seemingly oblivious to the conditions their workers are in.
A worker is sitting in the bed of the pickup, exposed to direct sunlight.
“This guy has the audacity to keep his workers outside of his truck, while his whole truck is empty, probably with air conditioning, while his workers in the back in the blazing heat,” the caption read.
Notably, this is the only video on the poster’s page, suggesting the TikTok was explicitly made to document this incident and call attention to Hamilton Roofing’s practice—or it might just be a repost page.
What Is Heat Exhaustion?
Workers riding in the bed of a pickup under the scorching sun face serious health risks.
Heat exhaustion can occur when the body overheats during strenuous activity or prolonged sun exposure, with symptoms including heavy sweating, dizziness, headache, nausea, muscle cramps, and rapid heart rate, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
If not treated quickly, heat exhaustion can escalate to heat stroke. A heat stroke is a life-threatening condition marked by dangerously high body temperature and confusion or disorientation.
Experts advise anyone showing symptoms to move to a cooler area, hydrate, and seek medical attention immediately.
Prolonged exposure to high heat, especially during physical labor, makes prevention crucial.
Staying hydrated, taking breaks in shaded areas, and wearing loose clothing can help. But being forced to ride in a truck bed under the sun leaves workers particularly vulnerable to these serious conditions.
