Finding something unexpected in your once-frozen food isn’t exactly the dinner surprise anyone wants.
One woman’s discovery in her Tyson chicken nuggets has gone viral, leaving thousands of viewers equally grossed out and concerned about what might be lurking in their own freezer meals.
Woman Finds Feather In Tyson Chicken Nuggets
Content creator Destiny Elizabeth Nicole Morales (@destinyelizabeth14) shared her unsettling discovery while preparing what should’ve been a simple meal. The video has more than 62,000 views.
“I was about to make some of these Tyson chicken nuggets, and there’s a literal feather in the chicken nuggets,” she says in the TikTok, holding up the Tyson chicken nugget family pack for the camera.
The video clearly shows what appears to be a feather protruding from one of the frozen nuggets. It’s a sight that’s enough to make anyone lose their appetite.
Morales displays the offending nugget piece, making it impossible to miss the feather sticking out from the breading.
Foreign Objects In Chicken
When it comes to food safety, even small oversights can become major problems. According to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, any non-food foreign materials found in meat or poultry, like metal, plastic, rubber, glass, or wood, contaminate the product.
While feathers are technically inherent to poultry, if the size, shape, or amount presents a health hazard, the product would be considered “adulterated.”
The FDA has established guidelines defining hazardous foreign materials as objects smaller than 7 millimeters that could potentially be put in the mouth, according to the National Library of Medicine. Basically, if something’s small enough to be concealed from view but large enough to cause injury, it’s a problem.
And Tyson’s had its share of those problems.
The company has faced multiple recalls over the years for foreign material contamination. In November 2023, Tyson recalled nearly 30,000 pounds of its dinosaur-shaped Fun Nuggets after consumers found metal pieces in the product. One person even suffered a minor oral injury.
Before that, there were recalls for plastic pieces, reflective mirror-like material in ground beef, and various other foreign objects found in chicken products.
Commenters React
“At least you know it’s real chicken,” a top comment read.
“My question is why are we still buying Tyson products?” a person said.
“The way I’d NEVER eat chicken again bc my brain doesn’t even trust it to begin with. If I come across a weird looking shape or vein…I’m done,” another wrote.
