The Production Cost Of ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Was Somehow More Than ‘Sinners’ And ‘Weapons’ COMBINED

Netflix is unsurprisingly claiming that Happy Gilmore was a massive hit, saying that the sequel to the beloved 1996 Adam Sandler racked up over 46 million views in its opening weekend. Given what the streamer reportedly spent on the film, it should perhaps come as no surprise that they’re eager to deem Happy Gilmore 2 a success.

In a press release detailing the “record-breaking” production of Happy Gilmore 2 in New Jersey — which is quickly becoming the “Hollywood of the East coast” with its investment in building movie studios — it was revealed that Netflix spent at least $152 million to produce the movie.

$152 million would be a lot for a CGI-heavy comic book movie, let alone a sports comedy for a streaming service.

Just to put that number in perspective, that’s more money than it cost to make Ryan Coogler’s Sinners and Zach Cregger’s Weapons COMBINED.

Perhaps the extensive cast list contribute to that high production cost, as Happy Gilmore 2 featured over 30 cameos from actors, musicians, athletes, and so on.

Sandler returned in the starring role of hockey-swing-driving golfer Happy Gilmore alongside fellow returning stars Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Ben Stiller, Allen Covert, and Dennis Dugan.

Alongside the returning cast members from the original, Happy Gilmore 2 also featured Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Margaret Qualley, Benny Safdie, Blake Clark, and Nick Swardson, and celebrities/athletes such as Bad Bunny, Kid Cudi, Travis Kelce, Eminem, John Daly, Will Zalatoris, Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and many more.
