The Golden Globes appears to have founds its host for the next several years after comedian Nikki Glaser crushed it on Sunday night. According to reports, Nikki Glaser was paid a sizable fortune for the one-night Golden Globes hosting gig that certainly required months of preparation prior to that.
Nikki Glaser came out guns blazing in her monologue of the 83rd Golden Globes and appears to have held back *just enough* that the Golden Globe Foundation will almost certainly welcome her back as host next year, according to Deadline. They say “notwithstanding a global calamity” Nikki Glaser will be back, they also reported details of how much she got paid.
As mentioned above, the ‘salary’ on its surface level is for hosting the awards show which appears to be just a few hours of work. But that isn’t the case at all. Nikki Glaser spent months preparing her monologue and bits, working with other comedians to hone her jokes, and there’s really no way of telling how many hours she spent leading up to the actual hosting of the Golden Globes but it was A LOT.
According to Deadline, Nikki Glaser was paid $400,000 for the hosting gig. They also report that Nikki is likely to get a big, fat raise before hosting next year and (most likely) the year after that as well. Their report goes:
The roast queen was paid a bit more than $400,000 for her inaugural Globes hosting stint on last night’s 82nd annual Golden Globes, I’ve learned. That fee will rise “significantly,” a well placed source says if and when Glaser comes back to host the 83rd annual Golden Globes for the third year in the five-year deal the Globes has with CBS.
According to reports, Nikki Glaser inked a deal to host the awards show for three years prior to hosting this past weekend. It sounds like the deal wasn’t 100% set in stone and was contingent on her performance this year which, obviously, she crushed it.
And now that she appears to be a shoe-in to host next year, get a raise on the $400K salary she received (Ricky got $500K and Tina Fey/Amy Poehler got $4 million each, by the way)… It will be interesting to see if Nikki Glaser pushes the envelope further next year. A lot was made over the jokes Nikki Glaser cut from her opening monologue:
Nikki also cut a Luigi Mangione joke thinking it was no longer topical. But now that she crushed it as the host and will likely get a pay raise, we’ll be watching to see if she keeps a ‘Stern File’ again or just goes full bore with roast-style jokes of the A-List audience.
