“Oh, I’ll just have whatever you drink.” It’s a go-to for patrons who don’t have a specific drink in mind when they finally make it to the bar top. But one bartender is warning against this common practice after an incident with a customer.
Being a bartender means dealing with a rotating cast of tipsy, drunk, and occasionally clueless customers. Sure, the job comes with bigger issues—such as no PTO and health insurance—but every now and then, it’s the smaller annoyances that stick out.
TikTok Gabriella Masseran (@gabriellamasseran), a Denver-based bartender, shared a now-viral TikTok about a customer who made a common bar mistake.
‘You Can’t Do That’
Her video, which has racked up more than 2.8 million views, starts with a firm PSA.
“You guys cannot go up to the bar and be like, ‘Oh, I’ll have whatever you drink,’” she says. “You can’t do that.”
She explains that one customer made this exact request.
“I had somebody do that the other day,” she says. “This guy’s like, ‘Oh, I’ll have what you drink.’”
Gabriella says she tried to warn him.
“I’m like, dude, I… I don’t think you know what I drink,” she says.
But the customer insisted.
“He goes, ‘Oh, no, I’ll have it,’” she says. “I’m like, ‘OK.’”
She guessed he was expecting something mild—maybe a vodka soda or an amaretto sour. So she made him her drink of choice. When he came back, it didn’t go the way he thought it would.
“He comes up. He’s like, ‘What the f— is this?’” she says. “I’m like, ‘What do you want from me?’”
She told him exactly what it was. “I’m like, dude, it is Rumplemintz on the rocks with a splash of Coca-Cola,” she says. “What do you want? I don’t know what you want.”
In the caption of the video, Gabriella wrote, “I think he learned his lesson.”
What Is Rumplemintz, Exactly?
Rumplemintz, formally known as Rumple Minze, is a German-style peppermint schnapps that clocks in at a strong 50% ABV—or 100 proof.
It’s known for its icy-cool flavor and high alcohol content, which makes it a go-to for experienced drinkers and a trap for people who don’t know what they’re getting into.
Because it goes down relatively easy but hits hard, there are more than a few horror stories tied to the drink.
“I lost $450 after blacking out,” one Reddit user recalled.
“Rumplemintz tastes good but hits like a truck,” another wrote. “It’s easy to do shots of. That’s the problem—it’s just easier to drink a lot more than shots of whiskey.”

Commenters Weigh In
In the comments section of Gabriella’s video, users had thoughts—some about her drink of choice, others about the clueless customer.
“I like Rumplemintz shots, but a rumple mixed drink…” one person wrote.
“As a bartender…. I drink rumple with a water back. You can NOT hang with us,” said another.
Someone else added, “The amount of sober bartenders makes this even funnier.”
“As a bartender I hate this cause customers always ask me this and then get mad when I give them my drink… a straight shot of tequila no salt no lime no nothing. Enjoy dude,” one user wrote.
Another joked, “Rumplemintz means it’s time to go home or I’m going to jail.”
