Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry’s longtime co-star on the iconic NBC sitcom Friends, has opened up about the death of her late friend and had a sobering perspective on his passing, as she wondered if perhaps it’s better now that he’s passed. “I’m glad he’s out of that pain,” Aniston said.
Since 2019, Jennifer Aniston has starred in just two movies — Netflix’s Murder Mystery and its sequel — and the TV series The Morning Show, meaning she doesn’t do much press these days, thus making her recent comments about Perry some of her most extensive public comments on his tragic death.
The Hollywood stalwart recently sat down for a feature length interview with Vanity Fair ahead of the release of the new season of her AppleTV+ series The Morning Show, which is set to begin its fourth season in September, and was asked about Perry’s passing, prompting a heartfelt yet stark response.
Jennifer Aniston wonders if it’s better that Matthew Perry is dead because he’s free of pain
“We did everything we could when we could. But it almost felt like we’d been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight. As hard as it was for all of us and for the fans, there’s a part of me that thinks this is better. I’m glad he’s out of that pain,” Aniston recently said in an interview with Vanity Fair.
Perry, born August 19, 1969, passed away at his home in Los Angeles, California on October 28, 2023 after he accidentally drowned in his hot tube while overdosing on ketamine.
Salvador Plasencia, one of the doctors who was prescribing him with the ketamine that ultimately led to his overdose, has been sentenced to up to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to illegally giving the actor ketamine, with Plasencia allegedly helping to inject the actor and teaching his assistant how to do it when he was not available. He also admitted in a text message discovered by prosecutors that he was ripping the actor off, saying at one point, “I wonder how much this moron will pay?”
