A couple weeks ago, John Mayer – singer/songwriter visionary and professional shredder in Dead & Company – released his Summer bop called “New Light.” It references “pushing 40 in the friend zone” and includes all sorts of funky beats.
But just wait til you see the video. It’s made over a variety of green screen backgrounds, with Mayer ridiculously exclaiming “I’m John Mayer and I’m ready to be a star!” On Instagram, he provides a touch of context:
I needed to make a video for New Light but nobody could agree on a budget, so I went to a place downtown and made this with a company that usually does birthday and Bar Mitzvah videos
The lesson here is a pertinent one: Never stop doing you, as ridiculous as it is.
