Longtime Hollywood mega producer Jerry Bruckheimer has provided an update on the sixth movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean and Johnny Depp’s potential involvement in it.

Johnny Depp, 61 years old, has not appeared in a major Hollywood production since 2018, when he starred in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. He does, however, has his first studio feature in over six years lined up as he’s set to star in the action thriller Day Drinker alongside Penelope Cruz and Madelyn Cline at Lionsgate, which is set to release either later this year or next year.

The Academy Award nominated actor featured in the most recent film in the franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which was released in 2017 and was the worst-reviewed film in the series and the second lowest-grossing behind the original.

Pirates of the Caribbean producer says he’s spoke to Johnny Depp about returning to the franchise

“If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it. It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know,” Bruckheimer told EW.

Since falling out of Hollywood and mounting his recent comeback, Depp has yet to publicly comment on his willingness to return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which is arguably the most iconic role of his career (certainly, at the very least, the most fruitful).

The most recent film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise was 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales, which represented a low-point for the series at it was the worst-reviewed film of the five and the second lowest-grossing behind the 2003 original.

All five of the Pirates of the Caribbean are currently streaming on Disney+.
