Kevin Spacey has responded to Guy Pearce’s allegations that he “targeted” him when the pair worked together. Spacey and Pearce starred alongside each other in the 1997 film L.A. Confidential.
Earlier this week, while appearing on a The Hollywood Reporter podcast, Guy Pearce — nominated for Best Supporting Actor at this year’s Academy Awards for his work in The Brutalist — said that Spacey “targeted” him while the pair were working together on the neo-noir crime film L.A. Confidential, which was directed by Curtis Hanson and also featured Russell Crowe, Kim Basinger, and Danny DeVito.
“I was sort of scared of Kevin because he’s quite an aggressive man,” Pearce said. “He’s extremely charming and brilliant at what he does — really impressive, etc. He holds a room remarkably. But I was young and susceptible, and he targeted me, no question.”
Kevin Spacey got wind of Pearce’s comments and immediately responded to him on social media, saying that Pearce should “grow up.”
“We could have had that conversation, but instead, you’ve decided to speak to the press, who are now, of course, coming after me, because they would like to know what my response is to the things that you said. You really want to know what my response is? Grow up,” Spacey said.
“Did you also, by the way, tell the press that a year after we shot L.A. Confidential, you flew to Savannah, Georgia while I was shooting Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, just to spend time with me? Did you tell the press that too, or does that not fit into the victim narrative you have going?”
