A pro wrestler was arrested last week after a Jersey Mike’s employee in Navarre, Florida found a note from an alleged kidnapping victim in the restaurant’s bathroom. The note was written by the wrestler’s girlfriend who accused him of holding her against her will.
The Jersey Mike’s employee, Eleanor Coffee, was the one who noticed a “little piece of crumpled up paper” sitting on the floor next to a toilet paper dispenser in the women’s bathroom. When she looked at it, she saw the woman’s plea, which read, “Please help get me home! HELP! Get me before May 30th!”
At first she thought it was just a piece of trash, but when she saw the woman’s name, a phone number and a nearby address on it she notified her manager and called the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.
“She was like, ‘Please help me. I’m at this address in Navarre. I need you to call the police and do a wellness check,'” Coffee told WEAR News.
As it turned out, deputies were able to identify the man on security video and were familiar with him due to prior domestic violence cases. They then obtained a search warrant for the address on the note and when they found the woman there, she “confirmed she authored the note and detailed a prolonged period of abuse.”
“She detailed repeated assaults, threats involving weapons, and being held in isolation … for a span of several months,” the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office said in a written statement. “Deputies observed visible injuries” and the woman was taken to a hospital to be treated for “suspected broken bones and other trauma.”
According to Ringside News, the man who was arrested goes by the name Jayden Steele when wrestling. He denied ever striking the woman, but, according to Law & Crime, she provided photographic records of injuries. He ended up being booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail and was charged with four felonies and a misdemeanor including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping with false imprisonment, and battery.
