‘Knowing The Truth Can Save You Some Awkward Moments’: Las Vegas Server Calls Out Customers Who Get Free Drinks At Casinos. Here’s What You’re Doing Wrong

If you’re getting ready for a weekend in Las Vegas, you’re probably ready to spend a fair bit of money gambling. Something you’re probably not ready to spend money on, however, is alcohol.

That’s because many believe that, if you’re gambling at the tables in Las Vegas, you’ll be given as much free booze as you want, and that all of it will be paid for by the casino.

Even though Las Vegas is becoming less popular as a tourist destination, that does not mean there isn’t still fun to be had—or free drinks to be consumed.

That said, there are many misconceptions about Las Vegas’ common “free drinks” policies. Now, TikTok user and long-term Las Vegas server Jules (@vegasbornjules) is here to clear up some of those myths in a video with over 10,000 views.

What Are The Most Common Misconceptions About Free Drinks in Las Vegas?

In her video, Jules breaks down the three biggest misconceptions that she says she hears “all the time as a cocktail server in a casino,” per the caption of her video.

The first myth? If someone is gambling, everyone in their party is entitled to free drinks.

“Nope,” she declares. “Only the person actively gaming is entitled to the comp drinks. Your friends just can’t sit there and sip for free.”

Next, Jules says that many believe servers will approach them as soon as they sit down. This, she states, is not necessarily true.

“It depends on the section, how busy it is, how much you’re gambling,” she shares. “We are covering large areas sometimes, so sometimes it takes a little patience.”

Finally, she says that some believe they can show up to a table and begin ordering whatever drink they want. This is incorrect, claims Jules.

“Casinos do comp drinks, but it’s usually well liquor and, you know, basic beer and wine,” she explains. “Super premium stuff—you will likely end up at the bar having to pay.”

She closes by reminding visitors to Vegas to tip their servers and “have a great time” in the city.

How Can You Get Free Drinks in Las Vegas?

For the most part, casinos in Las Vegas will give players complimentary drinks for as long as they are playing at the tables or at the slot machines.

That said, there are some limitations. First, as Jules noted, casinos are unlikely to give players complimentary top-shelf liquor and will only provide drinks for the player. Though these rules are flexible if someone is gambling a lot of money. Second, some casinos may have minimums before they start providing free drinks.

In short, if one wants free drinks in Las Vegas, they usually just have to ask. If they haven’t seen a server in a while, they can also ask their dealer for cocktail service. Finally, internet users agree that tipping goes a long way with servers. And if one tips well, they’re likely to receive better service at the tables or slots.

Commenters Have Their Own Advice

In the comments section, users offered their own tips for playing in Las Vegas.

“Tip 20$ and she will bring you and who ever your with anything u want,” said a user. “Been doing this for 20 years.”

“I’ve always got free drinks when watching my husband play. Never had an issue,” offered another.

That said, some said the best move was avoiding the city altogether.

“Ill just take a cheap trip to cancun…all you can eat all you can drink way cheaper than vegas,” declared a further TikToker.
