It’s normal for workers and customers to exchange pleasantries at the beginning and end of a transaction. However, one customer turned this typical interaction on its head in a move that has this Lowe’s worker saying she’s ready to quit.

In a viral video, West Palm Beach, Florida-based Lowe’s worker Mayia (@mayiaaa._) says, “Y’all, somebody told me, ‘Have a good day.’ I said, ‘You, too.’ They said, ‘No, you don’t tell me that. I only tell you.’”

She then pauses and purses her lips before adding, “I’m finna quit.”

‘The Customers At Lowe’s Are Always So Rude’

In the comments section, viewers were annoyed by the customer’s response.

“Yk what.. go to hell instead then,” one said.

A second wrote, “I would’ve been like fine have the worst day then tf do I care?”

One suggested, “Start saying have the day you deserve.”

Another pointed out, “It’s giving that scene from drake and Josh where Josh tells the delivery guy to have a nice day and he says DON’T TELL ME WHAT TO DO lol.”

What Do I Do When A Customer Interaction Goes South?

If you find yourself in an awkward customer service interaction, one of the experts at Ruby has a few tips:

  • Lighten up: Don’t take yourself too seriously. If you make a mistake, laugh it off.
  • Let it go: Move on. Don’t draw out an awkward moment. Keep the conversation rolling while keeping it light.
  • Apologize when necessary: In some cases, mistakes and awkward moments cause problems. If you owe the customer an apology, be direct, personal, and brief. Take responsibility, consider offering an explanation, and let them know how you’ll fix the situation.
  • Be patient: Sometimes it’s OK to let silence sit. Pause and see how your customer responds. If they take the lead, awesome. If they don’t, jump in and steer the conversation in the right direction.
  • Use words and phrases that build trust: Some of these include “I understand,” “thank you,” and “of course.”

Since Mayia’s awkward moment came at the end of her interaction with the customer, it was probably best to just move on. It seems likely that she did and that her comment about quitting was just a joke. Way to keep it light, Mayia. You got this.
