A matchmaker thought he found love in a Cerca match who picked him up in her Porsche for their first date. Unfortunately, the night took a turn when she ran into her celebrity ex. Or did it?
TikTok user Tim Matches (@max.matches) posted a video with his online dating tale last week. “I just had undoubtedly the craziest date of my life last night,” he says to start the video.
Cerca is a dating app that advertises itself as a way of meeting romantic prospects with mutual connections. Tim says he matched with a woman on the app and made a plan to get drinks. He was intrigued when she announced that she would pick him up.
“At 6:59pm, I hear music blasting outside of my house,” he says. “I step outside to a 1989 Porsche [Carrera] Targa. Stick shift? What’s going on here? This beautiful woman is standing holding the passenger door open for me. I about got down on one knee then and there.”
If Tim was impressed before, the drive cemented his attraction. “She takes off,” he says. “We hit Mulholland. She’s legitimately drifting the corners on Mulholland Drive. We can’t even have a conversation. She is driving so fast, and the music is so loud. I’m loving it, though.”
Cerca Date Runs Into Celebrity Ex
He says they arrived at the drinks spot and found a table. At first, the conversation was easy, and they were getting to know each other. Then, Tim says he sensed his date’s energy shift. “I ask what was going on because it was very apparent,” he says.
The date, Time says, informed Tim that her ex was at the bar. He says he looked up and saw Elvis actor Austin Butler sitting there. “Austin Butler is the man that she’s pointing to,” he says with wide eyes. “Austin seemed to have sensed that there were some eyes on him, so he turns our direction. Without hesitation, the TikToker says Butler stood up and hugged the woman.
Tim recalls being instantly flustered. “Talk about getting mogged,” Tim says.
“[Butler] looks at me, goes, ‘I’ll take it from here.’ The girl who drove me to the bar, who I was on a date with, gives me a look and just kind of shrugs. I got up and I left, and I Ubered home. Circa matched us together. Who would’ve thought?” the TikToker continues.
Viewers Aren’t Buying What Tim Is Selling
In the comments section, viewers pretty roundly dismissed Tim’s story as a Cerca marketing plug.
One viewer wrote, “OK, I’m really gullible, but Austin Butler? There’s no way.”
A second person said the video made them do some research. “I had to look up mogged and Austin Butler,” they wrote. For the uninitiated, the term “mogged” refers to being one-upped by another person.
“Cerca is trying too hard with the ‘organic’ marketing strategy,” complained a third viewer.
It’s not clear whether this video is part of a campaign, but Cerca is cultivating a TikTok presence with dating stories.
@max.matches I mean I give Cerca credit for this story…
