Cardi B and Matthew McConaughey isn’t a duo you’d ever expect to see. But once you witness it, you realize that it actually quite works, which is exactly what happened when the pair crossed paths on The Today Show this week.
Earlier this week, Matthew McConaughey was appearing on The Today Show to promote both his new movie AppleTV+ movie The Lost Bus (his first starring role in six years) and his new books Poems & Prayers.
The Academy Award-winning actor just so happened to be on the show the same day that rapper Cardi B was filling in as a guest host alongside Jenna Bush Hager.
To break the ice a little bit, permanent host Hager mentioned that McConaughey is named in one of Cardi B’s songs, “Wanna Be (Remix),” alongside GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion.
“You’re in one of her raps,” Bush Hager told McConaughey. “And my toes white like Matthew McConaughey.”
“Well you know. Megan Thee Stallion, she made a reference about fine white men, and I was like, ‘Oh well, fine white men, white toes, Matthew McConaughey.’ But I said your last name wrong because I had to rhyme it… He’s a poet, he knows about it.”

The Lost Bus — directed by The Bourne Supremacy and Captain Phillips filmmaker Paul Greengrass — will be released on AppleTV+ on October 5.
Check out the official synopsis and trailer for The Lost Bus, via AppleTV+, below. McConaughey’s book Poems & Prayers is now available for purchase after being published on Tuesday, September 16.
“Directed by Academy Award-nominee Paul Greengrass and inspired by real events, The Lost Bus is a white-knuckle ride through one of America’s deadliest wildfires, as a wayward school bus driver (Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey) and a dedicated school teacher (Emmy, SAG and Golden Globe Award-winner America Ferrera) battle to save 22 children from the terrifying inferno.”
