Earlier this week, incoming 78 year old President Donald Trump announced that he will be appointing actors Jon Voight, Sylvester Stallone, and Mel Gibson — who have a combined age of 233 years old — as his “Ambassadors to Hollywood.” The announcement came as surprise news to everyone, including even Gibson.

Mel Gibson, 69 years old, has a new movie Flight Risk — which he directed but does not star in — releasing in theaters on January 24. Given his recent support of Trump, Gibson has found himself in the good graces of the former host of The Apprentice.

Flight Risk is Gibson’s first directional effort since 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge, which was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

“It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone, to be Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

“They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE! These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!”

Gibson, however, was unaware that such a position existed, let alone that he was being named to it, until Trump tweeted about it.

“I got the tweet at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised. Nevertheless, I heed the call. My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can. Any chance the position comes with an Ambassador’s residence?” Gibson’s said in a statement to Variety.

He has been plenty busy acting in B movies, however, having appeared in 11 films since 2022: Last Looks, Panama, Agent Game, Father Stu, Hot Seat, Bandit, On the Line, Confidential Informant, Desperation Road, Boneyard, and Monster Summer.

As for Stallone, he’s currently starring on the Paramount+ series Tulsa King, while Voight most recently had a role in Francis Ford Coppola’s instantly infamous mega-bomb Megalopolis.
