Super actress Halle Berry is widely regarded as one of the most gorgeous women on the face of the planet. But that wasn’t enough to keep her ex-husband, former MLB All-Star David Justice, from filing for divorce.
Justice, a three-time All-Star and two-time World Series winner, was married to Berry from 1993-1997, which coincidentally lines up with the peak of his baseball career.
In a new sit-down interview with the “All The Smoke” podcast, Justice revealed what exactly it was that led to he and Berry’s divorce, and fans were absolutely stunned by his season.
David Justice Felt That Halle Berry Was Not Domestic Enough For His Taste
According to Justice, the reason he walked away from Berry was because he struggled to see her as the mother of his children. In 2001, Justice remarried to Rebecca Villalobos. The pair have three children: David Jr., Dionisio, and Raquel.
“She asked me to marry her after knowing me for five months,” he recalled. “I don’t know if my heart was really into it. But I didn’t want to make her feel bad and say no. I was just in the moment, it caught me off-guard. We’re getting along, we’re vibing, again, we’re only five months in, we’re still in the honeymoon stage.”
But that wasn’t the biggest issue, according to Justice. Instead, he felt that Berry just wasn’t very “motherly.”
“I’m looking at my mom, I’m a Midwest guy. So in my mind, I’m thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean, and I’m thinking OK, if we have kids, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with?” he said. “And at that time, as a young guy, she don’t cook, don’t clean, don’t really seem like motherly.”
Now, that might come across as insane a lot of people. After all, Berry was voted the world’s most beautiful woman by Eve Magazine in 2003 and was named one of People Magazine’s 50 most beautiful people.
But is it really that crazy? Justice clearly wanted children. Family is obviously very important to him. At the time, it’s possible Berry didn’t feel the same way.
Berry has two children. But she didn’t have her first until 2008. It’s entirely possible that the two just weren’t on the same page about what they wanted, which you’d ideally figure out before getting married. But’s also not the worst reason I’ve seen for someone getting divorced.
Although the thought of divorcing Halle Berry, of all people, is pretty crazy to begin with.
