‘Extra Protein’: Boston Woman Picks Up Jar Of Mt. Olive Pickles. Then She Sees Something Floating Inside

A Boston, Massachusetts-based Star Market customer is warning people to look closer at what they buy after finding something strange in a jar of Mt. Olive pickles.

In a viral TikTok, Shannon (@sistershannong) holds up a jar of Mt. Olive in the store and says, “Well, well, well, look what we found in the pickles.”

Floating at the top of the jar seems to be a cricket of some sort, blending in fairly well with the green pickles.

“Now, what is that? Please tell me what is it. Gotta pay attention to what we eating, people. This is crazy.”

‘Oh Lord! Not The Crickle!’

In the comments section, viewers had different guesses as to what the bug could be.

“It’s a pickled potato bug,” one said.

“It looks like a mole cricket? maybe?” a second guessed.

A third suggested, “I think it might be a Cicada; Mt. Olive pickles is based out of North Carolina & it’s Cicada season. I literally hear them screeching in the background as I write this lol.”

A fourth joked, “It’s called a pickle patter bug. They bury themselves in cucumbers as they’re growing and if you put the cucumber to your ear you can hear them make a little drumming noise. I also just made this up.”

So What Is It?

The bug in the jar looks green.

Mole crickets are typically brown, while potato bugs are typically yellow and black.

Based on this, it seems cicada is the most likely option.
