The Girl Scouts have been selling cookies to raise money for over 100 years, and the organization has repeatedly tinkered with the lineup of its signature baked goods. Now, they’re about to welcome a new member to the family while bidding farewell to a couple that have apparently overstayed their welcome.
The organization that’s officially known as the Girl Scouts of the United States of America has a history that stretches back to 1912, and members of an enterprising troop in Oklahoma are credited with being the first ones to sell cookies as part of a fundraising effort when they went that route five years later.
Other troops were eventually encouraged to follow suit, and while they were initially tasked with whipping up the cookies themselves, the organization began to partner with some commercial bakers in the 1930s.
Three varieties, an Oreo-inspired Sandwich, the shortbread Trefoils, and what are now known as “Thin Mints,” comprised the core lineup at the start of the 1950s, but the family gradually expanded to welcome staples including Samoas, Tagalongs, and Do-si-Dos (which are respsectivley known as Caramel DeLites, Peanut Butter Patties, and Peanut Butter Sandwiches in some regions).
Other options have come and gone since then, and there’s another reshuffle on the horizon that will result in a new permanent addition as well as the loss of two others that are being cut from the lineup.
The newest Girl Scout Cookie is called the Exploremore and inspired by Rocky Road ice cream

2022 marked the last time a new Girl Scout cookie entered the permanent rotation in the form of Adventurefuls, which featured a caramel cream center in a brownie base along with a little bit of sea salt (Raspberry Rally, which was essentially a fruity version of a Thin Mint, had a one-and-done stint in 2023).
This week, the Girl Scouts announced they’re shaking things up again while drumming up hype for the arrival of Exploremores, a Rocky Road-inspired cookie that boasts chocolate, marshmallow, and toasted almond–flavored crème.

Exploremores will arrive when Girl Scout Cookie Season arrives at the start of 2026, but there will also be a couple of casualties: the French toast-inspired Toast Yay!, which debuted in 2021, and S’Mores, which launched in 2017, are both being discontinued.
I have high hopes for the new variety based on the description, so here’s to hoping it lives up to the hype.
