The biggest names in the music industry were front and center at FireAid Los Angeles on Thursday night to help raise funds for those who lost everything in the Pacific Palisades fires, the most destructive fire in California history. While there were some bad a– perfomances throughout the night, those at the Kia Forum who were lucky enough to get tickets (the queue to buy was 8 hours online when I looked) were stunned when the surviving members of Nirvana took the FireAid LA stage and brought the house down.

The surviving members of Nirvana, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear (a member from 93-34), last met on stage when Nirvana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 11 years ago. At the time, they were joined on stage by St.Vincent, Joan Jett, Kim Gordon of the Sonic Youth, and Lorde who all provided the vocals for Kurt Cobain’s parts while the band members performed for the HoF crowd.

Flash forward to Thursday night in Los Angeles and the surviving members of Nirvana were once again joined on stage by St. Vincent, Joan Jett, and Kim Gordon but this time around instead of Lorde it was Dave Grohl‘s daughter Violet who sang Kurt’s vocals on ‘All Apologies.’

Below is a YouTube video of the full performance but first, here is Violet Grohl singing ‘All Apologies’ with her dad and the other Nirvana members:

Some days I can’t tell if I really, really miss Nirvana or if I just miss being young but man, this performance is incredible:

FireAid LA is believed to have raised over $60 million on Thursday night for victims of the wildfires and they raised that just from ticket and merch sales. That hasn’t even factored in the donations that came in. Surely seeing Nirvana on stage at FireAid LA led to a flurry of additional donations, right?
