Extreme meteorologist Reed Timmer PhD, who is widely considered to be the most famous tornado chaser in the industry, found himself mere feet from being swept up by a flash flood near the Grand Canyon.

Parts of the Grand Canyon National Park have been experiencing the most extreme weather in decades over the past several weeks. The Dragon Bravo fire, caused by a lightning strike, has been burning since the 4th of July and burned an area of 144,432 acres. That has drastically altered the landscape over the past 5 weeks.

Extreme Meteorologist Reed Timmer Caught By Flash Flooding Near Grand Canyon

This week, extreme meteorologist Reed Timmer PhD was in the area tracking incoming weather.

Timmer mentioned in the caption of his latest TikTok video from the Grand Canyon National Park region that he is “watching the Southwest Monsoon pattern closely” over this coming week. Adding that a friend of his, ‘flood guru David Ranking’ was keeping an eye on the Dragon Bravo Fire burn scar which has enormous flash flood potential right now.

All of that came along with this video where Reed Timmer PhD was within feed of a flash flood…

DESERT #FLASHFLOOD MODE ACTIVATED? I am watching the Southwest Monsoon pattern closely over the next week or two as some decent moisture could flow up over the Desert. My friend, the flood guru David Rankin, is watching the Dragon Bravo Fire burn scar on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon for debris flow / flash flood potential with 70% POPS returning by Friday! I may have to point the Dominator Fore west for more of this action. Back to basic flood mode activated likely #weather

Run faster, bro!

The comments on Timmer’s TikTok video really sum up how dangerous it was being that close to a flash flood.

One person, user BHendricks, joked that he is the “Steve Irwin of weather right here” for jumping from tornadoes to flash flooding.

Another user, TRexMorgan with 1400+ likes, joked “‘Oh hugelog!’ Me on the toilet this morning” poking fun at Timmer’s commentary in his video. Someone else chimed in with “run faster bro, I’m scared” which really hits home for the emotions evoked by this clip.

We see this extreme weather phenomenon, we know it is not safe. As humans, we are wondering why Reed Timmer isn’t running away from the flash flood faster. But we can’t stop watching the river of trees pound through the canyon. It is all so mesmerizing.
