Iconic actor Robert Redford has passed away at the age of 89 years old. Redford — widely considered one of the most handsome leading men in American cinema history — was best known for starring in films such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Three Days of the Condor, All The President’s Men, and The Natural.

In addition to being one of the defining movie stars of his generation, Robert Redford was also an Academy Award-winning filmmaker, having won Best Director and Best Picture for his work on the 1980 film Ordinary People.

Redford also established the Sundance Film Institute in 1981, leading to the creation of the Sundance Film Festival, one of America’s premier film fests.

In the latter stages of his career, Redford starred in films such as All Is Lost (2013), Truth (2015), Our Souls at Night (2017), and The Old Man & the Gun (2018), while also portraying Alexander Pierce in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

Following the news of his passing, the movie world took to social media to mourn the death of the cinematic legend.

Beyond his film work, Redford was also a political activist, notably putting his name and weight behind causes such supported environmentalism, Native American rights, LGBT rights, and independent art, and was honored with a Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in 2016.
