Last week, local officials in the Staten Island area in New York and New Jersey requested the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the FBI conduct investigations into multiple sightings of giant drones that have appeared without explanation over the past two-plus weeks. Now, one Congressman says he believes the drones were launched by an Iranian “mothership,” while a State Senator is calling for a state of emergency.
“They weren’t like a normal drone somebody would purchase and use at their home. They were large — somebody described as large as an SUV,” Evesham Police Chief Walt Miller said about the mysterious drones last week.
Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella stated, “It is odd and quite bizarre that nobody can figure out who is flying these drones, where they are coming from, and their purpose. It has been reported that some of the drones may be flying without an active transponder, adding to the concern about their whereabouts.”
“Let me be clear: The state police, this is way beyond their expertise … We know the Department of Defense has the technology to monitor these drones,” New Jersey State Senator Jon Bramnick told America Reports this week.
“The problem is we don’t have the Department of Defense in New Jersey at this time. And that’s what I call for.
“Until the Department of Defense comes in, shuts down airspace completely to drones, do a limited state of emergency – no drones in the sky until we figure out what’s going on here. But without the Department of Defense, we will have no information because the technology is way beyond state officials.”
NJ State Senator Jon Bramnick calls for a state of emergency to ban all drones over NJ temporarily.

Meanwhile, New Jersey State Representative Jeff Van Drew told The Faulkner Focus this week that “very high sources, very qualified sources, very responsible sources” told him that they suspect the drones are connected to an Iranian “mothership” stationed off the East Coast of the United States.
“Iran launched a mothership, probably about a month ago, that contains these drones,” he claimed. “That mothership is off the east coast of the United States of America. They’ve launched drones—this is everything that we can see and hear. Again these are from high sources, I don’t say this lightly.”
He added, “The sources I have are good. They can’t reveal who they are because they are speaking to me in confidentiality. These drones should be shot down.”
The Pentagon, naturally, denied Van Drew’s claims. Bramnick, however, had Van Drew’s back.
“Based on what Van Drew said, based on what the public is saying, based on what I know and I heard today, the Department of Defense needs to come in immediately, track these drones, find out where they’re coming from and what they’re doing here,” Bramnick said.
“This is no joke. This is serious stuff. And what’s most concerning is I, as a person, would never have thought that drones the size of SUVs in the sky – [I would think] the Air Force, military, somebody would know about it other than the citizens calling the FBI. That’s pretty unsettling.”
