Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have shared an extensive behind-the-scenes look at Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is currently filming in Scotland. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously helmed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the next movie set to release in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when it hits movie theaters on Friday, July 31, 2026. It also has the job of preceding the next Avengers movie, Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently scheduled to hit theaters in December 2026.

One aspect of Spider-Man: Brand New Day that has both fans and Tom Holland himself excited is the use of practical effects versus blue-screen CGI, which was, of course, heavily featured in the previous Spider-Man movie, 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

“I’m obviously over the moon and so excited. Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal. And I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID; we shot the entire film on stages,” Holland said of filming Brand New Day.

“Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow and we’re gonna use the streets of Glasgow to build this massive set-piece that we’re putting together. So it’s gonna feel like making [2017’s] Spider-Man 1 again. It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it, it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”

In addition to Tom Holland starring in his fourth solo film as Spidey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will also star Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, and Michael Mando.

Prior to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Holland will next be seen starring as Telemachus in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which releases on July 17, 2026.
