Getting your groceries delivered to your doorstep is supposed to be convenient, not destructive.
But one St. Louis homeowner discovered that his Walmart delivery came with an unexpected and unwanted bonus: permanent graffiti on his house.
Many people in the comments are interrogating the homeowner instead of questioning why the delivery person chose to deface private property.
Driver’s Vandalism House. Is His Reason Valid?
In a viral video that garnered more than 800,000 views across multiple posts, St. Louis homeowner @intalleyvision showed the aftermath of his Walmart grocery delivery.
In the TikTok, he showed the number “5233” written in black marker directly on the white exterior wall of his home.
“We just got our groceries delivered from Walmart. And the driver wrote our street address on our house because he said he needed to take a photo of the groceries being delivered with the house number in it,” he said in the video, clearly bewildered by the explanation.
The mark may only be palm-sized. But it’s still an eyesore and an unexpected inconvenience for @intalleyvision to have to clean up.
“WE HAVE NUMBERS ON OUR HOUSE, WHICH MAKES THIS CONFUSING!!” he added in the caption.
Magic Eraser Meets Its Match
In a follow-up video, @intalleyvision tried to remove the unwanted numbers using a Magic Eraser, a cleaning product known for its effectiveness on tough stains and marks.
Despite the product’s reputation for removing seemingly permanent marks, the numbers remained stubbornly in place, refusing to budge from the house’s exterior.
TikToker Claps Back At Commenters
Many commenters seemed to side with the delivery driver, assuming that @intalleyvision’s home number wasn’t clearly marked. However, the homeowner showed that there were not one, but three number markers in different spots.
There’s one with large metal numbers displayed prominently on a decorative wood slab on the front of the house. The same numbers appear on the mailbox. And there’s even a small sign with the address number on the lawn.
The driver clearly had multiple options for capturing a clear photo with the house number but instead chose a totally unreasonable approach.
What Legally Counts As Vandalism?
The driver’s actions may have crossed into criminal territory, as vandalism is legally defined as intentionally defacing, damaging, or destroying another person’s property without consent, FindLaw explained.
Vandalism is a crime that can result in fines, community service, restitution, or even jail time, depending on the severity and state laws. The act doesn’t require malicious intent.
Property owners who experience vandalism are often entitled to restitution, meaning the perpetrator must pay to repair or replace the damaged property. In this case, that could mean the cost of repainting or professionally cleaning the home’s exterior to remove the unwanted markings.
Commenters React
“Why don’t you have numbers on your house,” a top comment read.
“Why are yall assuming this man doesn’t have numbers on his house instead of assuming the driver is Amelia Bedelia?” a person said.
“Let’s not mention that it doesn’t even make sense. If you could just write the address on the wall and take a picture, you could do that to any house, even if it’s the wrong one,” another pointed out.
“I cannot stand people who order delivery and don’t have numbers on there house or anywhere you can see,” a commenter added.
@intalleyvision For some reason, @Walmart delivery driver wrote our house number on the wall of our house for a confirmation photo? WE HAVE NUMBERS ON OUR HOUSE, WHICH MAKES THIS CONFUSING!! #walmart #delivery #wtf #5233
