Super Troopers 3 is happening. Earlier this week, Searchlight Pictures announced that production on the filming is beginning this week.
The original Super Troopers was released in the year 2001 and became an instant cult classic for the Millenial and Gen X generations. The film followed a group of State Troopers in the fictional town of Spurbury, Vermont, who seek to prevent the closure of their station by uncovering a drug ring.
Featuring the Broken Lizard comedy troupe of Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske, the film became instantly quotable and thus a favorite of young men across the country. A crowd-funded sequel, Super Troopers 2, was released in 2018.

“Broken Lizard has been part of the Searchlight family for over two decades, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for another entry in the Super Troopers saga,” Searchlight President Matthew Greenfield said in a statement.
“Super Troopers has a way of making the absurd feel inevitable, and we can’t wait to bring audiences along on another adventure with these characters who leave a trail of joy and laughter, wherever their patrols may take them.”
“Broken Lizard is excited to help bring the theatrical comedy back. To America, we say, ‘It’s mustache-growing time!’” Chandrasekhar added.
In addition to Super Troopers and its sequels, Broken Lizard is also known for the films Club Dread and Beerfest. Chandrasekhar also directed the 2005 remake of The Dukes of Hazzard with Sean William Scott and Johnny Knoxville.
Given its beginning production this week, Super Troopers 3 will likely hit theaters next summer — although no official release date has been announced.
