Working in the service industry means dealing with all kinds of customers, from the friendly regulars who brighten your shift to complete douchebags.
When one Tampa bartender encountered a customer who blew vape smoke directly in her face, she wasn’t sure how to properly handle the situation, so she turned to TikTok to crowdsource the perfect revenge.
Bartender Asks for Revenge Ideas After Vape Incident
In a viral video with more than 566,000 views, bartender Cassandra Michelle (@cassandramichelle__) shared her frustration over a customer’s rude behavior.
“A girl just blew her vape directly in my face when ordering. What do I do?” the text overlay on the video reads.
Cassandra offered three potential revenge options:
- Throw a drink in her face
- Charge her triple then kick her out
- Pour her rumple and say it’s water
“Im offended can I do all three ?” she added in the caption.
But it doesn’t seem Cassandra ended up doing any of these (if she did, she didn’t post about it). It seems the point of her video was more to vent her frustrations and get a laugh from fellow service industry workers and highlight the kind of disrespectful behavior bartenders sometimes face on the job.
What Is Rumple Minze?
Rumple Minze—often just called “Rumple”—is a German peppermint schnapps that’s become something of an inside joke in bartending circles, according to VinePair. For anyone unfamiliar with the spirit, serving someone Rumple Minze while claiming it’s water would be quite the unpleasant surprise.
Unlike other peppermint schnapps brands, Rumple Minze clocks in at 50 percent alcohol by volume, making it significantly stronger than typical flavored liqueurs. VinePair notes that the liqueur is “extremely minty” and has earned the nickname “the bartender’s mouthwash” in some circles due to its intensely fresh flavor and high proof.
Rumple Minze first hit the U.S. market in 1981 during the boom of schnapps-heavy disco-era drinks. While it initially struggled to find its audience, the brand embraced its high alcohol content in the late 1980s with edgy advertising campaigns that positioned it as a hardcore alternative to sweeter schnapps options.
The liqueur has since found a home in dive bars across the South and Midwest as a popular shot.
Rumple checks all the boxes of a bartender’s handshake shot: it’s obscure and largely unknown by the general public, it’s inexpensive, it’s popular in dives where many bartenders end up post-shift, and most importantly, it’s polarizing and potent.
“If you sit next to someone at a bar and they take four shots of Rumple Minze in one sitting, they’re pretty seasoned. Not everyone can handle that,” a bartender told VinePair.
Commenters React
“This order: 3 wait till she drinks it, 1, then 2,” a top comment read.
“Forget her drink and hand her the menu that says you reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. Make sure the friends get their drinks,” person said.
“4 all of the above,” another wrote.
“I hate when I accidentally do it cause I’ll be trying so hard to make sure it doesn’t get in peoples face but it still does,” a commenter shared.
