The first official trailer for the reboot of The Naked Gun has been released. The Naked Gun reboot sees Liam Neeson take over for the legendary Leslie Nielsen in the lead role of Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Nielsen’s character.
The Naked Gun was directed by Akiva Schafer of The Lonely Island, who previously directed the cult classic film Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.
Check out the official synopsis (which makes sly reference to Liam Neeson’s iconic role in Taken) and trailer for The Naked Gun below.
“Only one man has the particular set of skills… to lead Police Squad and save the world! Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. (Liam Neeson) follows in his father’s footsteps in The Naked Gun, directed by Akiva Schaffer (Saturday Night Live, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) and from producer Seth MacFarlane (Ted, Family Guy).”
Alongside Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr., The Naked Gun stars Pamela Anderson — with early reports indicating that she’s particularly scene-stealing — Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, Danny Huston, and more.
The Naked Gun franchise began in 1982 with the ABC spoof comedy Police Squad!. The first film in the franchise, The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, was then released in movie theaters in 1988.
Two additional Leslie Nielsen-starring Naked Gun sequels were then released in the 1990s — The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear in 1991 and Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult in 1994.
