Comedian Theo Von has addressed the concerning video that went viral at a New York City comedy club over the weekend.
On Saturday night, online fans complained about Von’s terrible set at the Beacon Theater, which was part of his upcoming Netflix special.

Saw Theo at Beacon Theater tonight for his Netflix taping (double ouch).
1/3 of the crowd walked out (myself included – and they seem to keep coming). Worst set I’ve ever seen. Pandering to the dumbest 50 people in the room. Failure of epic proportions.
Von worried fans when he said he was “having a long month, I’m trying not to take my own life.”

In the latest episode of his This Past Weekend podcast, Von addressed his comments.
“You know that if you’ve listened to this show before or seen anything, you know: I say stuff. I would never take my own life. I would never take my own life,” Von said. “Okay? You hear that Israel? I would never take my own life.”
Von claims that he stopped taking his anti-depressant medication weeks before his set.
“I just kind of self-weaned myself off. And the reason why was because I wanted, like, during the comedy show, I wanted to have a little bit more emotion during it,” he said on the podcast, video of which is here if you can’t see it above.
“I just wanted to have some more feelings. … If you ever take antidepressants, or if you haven’t, they kind of take away your feelings, so you just kind of stay in this space where you’re OK. And it’s nice, it’s a safe space, but… you’re like the astronaut that kind of stays on the ship sometimes.”
THEO VON ADDRESSES VIRAL CLIP: Says he went off his antidepressants and made a joke about wanting to off himself but he didn’t mean it. Clarifies he’d never do something like that and appreciates the concern. I just thought it was a joke that didn’t land like the show apparently. pic.twitter.com/WSNDkVy9Ak
