Octopuses are unbelievable creatures. They can camouflage in seconds, use their arms to multitask, and are known for their intelligence. But if you spot one in the wild, marine experts agree on one thing—the best approach is to leave it alone.

Some species can deliver venomous bites, and even the friendliest encounter can stress them out. One popular TikToker learned this the hard way.

TikTok user Emeka (@emekaajr), who has 3 million followers, went viral with a clip showing him casually lip-syncing to a song while wearing an octopus on his head.

He captioned it, “Aquaman.” The video has racked up over 75.6 million views.

A couple of weeks later, however, he shared a very different scene—himself lying in a hospital bed.

The on-screen text read, “This is why you don’t put an octopus on ur head in contaminated water.” In the caption, he added, “60 million views at what cost.”

How It All Happened

In a follow-up video, Emeka explains exactly what led to the hospital trip.

“Basically, you guys have seen the octopus video where I put it on my head,” he says. He had filmed it at the beach, but something from the animal made its way into his eye.

“The ink—or like the… the substance from the octopus—got in my eye,” he explains, pointing to swelling on his eyelid. “I don’t know if you guys can see, but my eye is like inflating right here.”

“This is why you don’t put an octopus on your head,” he concludes. “This is what happens.”

A Risky Move For Both Human And Animal

Emeka might have laughed it off on camera, but putting a wild octopus on your head is a bad idea.

Marine experts warn that some species can inject venom, and all have a strong beak capable of breaking skin.

On top of that, handling them can be harmful to the octopus, causing stress and even injury.

Commenters Share Their Thoughts

“I have so many questions and I want exactly none of them answered,” one person wrote.

Another joked, “Gonna show this pic to my barber next time.”

Someone else chimed in, “Isn’t this dangerous?”

One viewer asked, “Who is seeing this after seeing notej hospital pic and vids?”
