Tributes To Val Kilmer Pour In As Revered Actor Tragically Passes Away At 65 Years Old

Actor Val Kilmer, known for his role in films such as The Doors, Top Gun, True Romance,Batman: Forever, Tombstone, and Heat has passed away. Kilmer was 65 years old.

According to Val Kilmer’s daughter Mercedes, Kilmer died Tuesday night in Los Angeles after a bout with pneumonia and was surrounded by family and friends. Kilmer had previously recovered from a 2014 throat cancer diagnosis that required two tracheotomies and largely ended his acting career.

Kilmer’s final film appearance came in 2022, when he reprised his role as Lt. Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky in Top Gun: Maverick. In 2021, a documentary about his life and career titled Val was released on Prime Video.

After news of his passing broke, tributes to the late actor from all across Hollywood, from both fans and performers alike, began to pour in. One of the main themes of the tributes is the immense creative talent that Kilmer possessed.

“See ya, pal. I’m going to miss you. You were a smart, challenging, brave, uber-creative firecracker. There’s not a lot left of those. I hope to see you up there in the heavens when I eventually get there. Until then, amazing memories, lovely thoughts,” actor Josh Brolin shared on social media.

“Val Kilmer was the most talented actor when in his High School, and that talent only grew greater throughout his life. He was a wonderful person to work with and a joy to know — I will always remember him,” posted iconic director Francis Ford Coppola.

“While working with Val on Heat I always marveled at the range, the brilliant variability within the powerful current of Val’s possessing and expressing character. After so many years of Val battling disease and maintaining his spirit, this is tremendously sad news,” Heat director Michael Mann said in a statement.
