Coffee is never enough, and every javaphile would agree with us. While the world is still deciding between mocha, latte, and cappuccino, did you know that coffee can actually be good for your lawn?

Well, the next time you are left with extra used coffee grounds, don’t throw it away, as we’ll share one of its lesser-known uses, which is, of course, the best hack for your dream of owning a lush green garden.

Coffee Is An Excellent Fertilizer

Besides giving you a morning kick, coffee has proven to be an excellent fertilizer.

This gardening hack reminds us that the best compost is the one that has a perfect balance of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

This is where the leftover used coffee grounds at your home come in handy– they contain about 2.5-3% of nitrogen, the most important nutrient for your plant’s growth.

How Coffee Grounds Act As A Fertilizer?

The nitrogen content in the coffee slowly releases itself, which reduces the chances of leaf burning. This is much reasonable, eco-friendly, and economical than the expensive store-bought fertilizer.

Moreover, coffee stimulates the growth of earthworms, indispensable contributors to a fertile lawn. These organisms aerate the lawns, stimulating further growth.

Additionally, coffee grounds help improve soil structure, which boosts drainage and helps with water retention. This, in turn further lock nutrients into the soil for a longer time.

Thus, this makes coffee even better than regular peat moss.

Goodness Of Coffee For Your Dream Lawns

Even though, coffee is an excellent compost for the plants, it is still not recommended to sprinkle used coffee grounds across your lawn.

Here’s what you should also know:

– Mix the coffee grounds into the soil rather than just sprinkling them across the lawn; this prevents them from being consumed  by microorganisms or even your pets.

– Coffee grounds must be combined with wood chips, lawn clippings or tree needles for optimum results. However, it will only act as a booster for the nutrient requirements for your lawns.

– Too much coffee covering the topsoil can be harmful; instead, it should be spread uniformly to ensure that coffee does not form a crusty layer.

-Do not forget to dry the coffee grounds before putting them on the ground. Ideally, sun-dry them beforehand and stir regularly to create a dry, fertilizer-like consistency.

– Never use fresh coffee grounds on your lawns; always use grounds that have already been used. Fresh grounds one can harm the soil’s pH balance.

Well, if you have leftover used coffee grounds lying around in your pantry, then worry not—you know the best way to use your favorite beverage till the last drop optimally.

And if not, you can easily visit Starbucks or any other coffee shop of your choice, and they can hand you some good used coffee grounds.
