Academy Award winning actor Will Smith appeared on a live stream hosted by streamer xQc and provided updates on sequels to two of his most beloved films. According to Smith, sequels to both I Am Legend and Hancock are in the works.

While word of an I Am Legend sequel with Michael B. Jordan has been kicking around for a few years now, a follow-up to Hancock is new information. I Am Legend (2007) and Hancock (2008) are two of the highest-grossing movies of Will Smith’s career, earning $624 million and $585 million at the global box office, respectively.

Similar to working with Michael B. Jordan on the I Am Legend sequel, Smith is trying to align himself with young star power for a Hancock follow-up, claiming that Zendaya has been approached about a role in the film.

“There’s a really cool Hancock 2 idea. We haven’t even talked about it. I’m going to give you one little piece. Zendaya [is] being approached for a role in Hancock 2,” Smith said on the stream.

Hancock, released in 2008 and directed by Peter Berg  — Hancock actually has a wild creative team, as it was written by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan and produced by Heat director Michael Mann — saw Smith star as an amnesiac, alcoholic superhero who tries to remember his past and become a better hero.

I Am Legend, on the other hand, is a post-apocalyptic zombie film. While Smith’s character Doctor Robert Neville dies at the end of the theatrical cut of I Am Legend, Smith previously confirmed the sequel would be using the alternate ending in which he survives as canon.

“Yeah, that’s a real thing. Me and Michael B. Jordan, we sat down for about a week, just went through, you know, character stuff. Akiva Goldsman, is the writer, so, he’s putting it together. No, that’s a real thing,” Smith said of the project.

Smith last starred in Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which released in theaters last summer. In October 2024, it was reported that was was reuniting with Bad Boys director Michael Bay for a Netflix action film titled Fast and Loose, and is attached to star in the sci-fi thriller Resistor at Sony.
