A Wisconsin woman shopping at her local grocery store is confused by an item marked “beef pizzle” in the meat section. Exactly what part of the cow is that, again?
TikTok user Jaxie (@lifewithjaxson) posted a video with her discovery earlier in the week. “Is this just another name for a cow p—-?” she asks. “A beef pizzle? Because that looks very phallic.”
According to the label, the beef pizzles are on sale at a store called Pan-Asian Market. It weighs 1.64 pounds and costs a total price of $16.38. It doesn’t seem like Jaxie is interested, though, because she quickly returns the item to its place in the cooler.
Viewers React To The Beef Pizzle
In the comments, viewers let Jaxie know that she should trust her intuition when it comes to questions like this.
“Um… that’s exactly what that is,” wrote one person.
“That’s it,” confirmed a second person.
“Why is that in a grocery store and who would eat that?” asked a third person.
Others leaned hard into the phallic angle. “Need it be that long?” joked one person.
“I just turned into a vegetarian,” said a second.
A third person asked, “So, did you buy it?”
What Is A Beef Pizzle?
As explained in this National Geographic feature, bull pizzle is used in Chinese and other Asian cultures and is sometimes used as an aphrodisiac. The pizzle must be cleaned thoroughly to remove the bull’s urinary tract or the meal will taste like, you know, pee.
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay tried bull penis on an episode of “Gordan’s Great Escape” while on a trip to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. He tries it in a soup flavored with cloves and other spices, but is cognizant of the main ingredient. “The soup’s nice, but it’s the crunchy bit in the middle,” Ramsay says as a review. “Muscle-y, grisly, and very chewy. Almost like sort of an oxtail but with a soft bone inside. Not good. And the size of them? Jesus Christ. Huge.”
If that wasn’t enough, a Vice reporter—inspired by an extremely disturbing story out of Austin, Texas—was moved to try the delicacy and offer a first-hand account.
Like the dish in Ramsay’s video, the reporter describes quarter-sized slices of pizzle dripping oil as he cooked it over an open flame at a Korean restaurant in Los Angeles. The verdict? “Chewy, tough meat with a bland and somewhat grimy flavor,” the writer said.
@lifewithjaxson I mean just say Beef Penis & call it a day. #PanAsia #beefpizzle #foods #food
Where Else Can You Find Beef Pizzle?
If you don’t want to try beef pizzle for yourself, you might consider that it is one of the most popular forms of dog treats. That’s right. Those “bully sticks” your dog munches on a couple of afternoons a week is the dried and sometimes braided reproductive organ of a cow. At least we’re teaming up across species to finally address food waste.
