Margot Robbie’s Upcoming Harley Quinn Movie Will Feature Other Female Supervillains, Make Zillions Of Dollars

Margot Robbie Harley Quinn

Warner Bros.

Margot Robbie was SO good as Harley Quinn in the abomination that was Suicide Squad that she’s going to get to do what Scarlett Johansson sadly hasn’t been able to do. And that is become the first woman to be the lead in a comic-book based blockbuster film. (Assuming she beats Brie Larson as Captain Marvel to the theaters.)

As we reported back in September, Robbie signed a deal with Warner Bros. to star in a a Suicide Squad spinoff for her character Harley Quinn.

Now we have some details on what the film will be about, and well, it sounds pretty fucking awesome.

David Ayer is back in the business of DC comic villains.

The filmmaker, who directed Warner Bros.’ all-bad guy comic book movie Suicide Squad, is reuniting with that film’s star, Margot Robbie, for Gotham City Sirens, a feature project that will showcase the top female villains from the DC stable, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Ayer will direct and produce the project with Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn, the part-time girlfriend of the Joker who is currently DC’s most popular female character. Robbie also is executive producing.

Sirens was a recent comic series from DC that focused on the popular villainesses from Batman’s rogue gallery. Among them were Quinn; Catwoman, Batman’s sometime love interest; and Poison Ivy, who uses plants and their toxins to get what she wants.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet, a top female writer in the action sphere who also has penned scripts for the Tomb Raider remake and Warners’ own Sherlock Holmes 3, is writing the screenplay.

A film with Robbie returning as Harley Quinn teaming up with two other ladies playing Catwoman and Poison Ivy? Can I buy tickets now?

Considering that Suicide Squad, as brutally bad as it was, still managed to rake in over $745 million dollars (more than Deadpool), this Harley Quinn movie will make a billion dollars, right?

The Hollywood Reporter also notes that Warner Bros. is also developing a Suicide Squad sequel and taking a look at creating another spinoff movie featuring Will Smith as Deadshot, because he sucked the least in the film aside from Robbie I assume.

No release date has yet been given for the Harley Quinn movie, but it is said to be on the fast track, so that’s also good news.
