Watch Jon Stewart’s Emotional Reaction To The Charleston Shooting On ‘The Daily Show’

“No jokes.” That’s how Jon Stewart somberly started The Daily Show on June 18th. Because there are no jokes today. There’s only deep, profound mourning, anger, and sadness that comes from “the depraved violence that we do to each other in the nexus of a gaping racial wound that will not heel that we pretend doesn’t exist.”

Those are Stewart’s words. They’re pretty accurate on an awful day like June 18th, 2015.

Stewart struggled to describe the heinous act of mass violence/domestic terrorism that was committed in a Charleston, South Carolina church on Wednesday night. But his emotional reaction on The Daily Show is a salient one — one that encapsulates how a lot of America and the world feels right now in the wake of yet another incompressible act of evil.

Watch it above.
