Today marks 99 days until the start of the 2025 NFL Regular Season and to get the NFL chatter going today we are looking back at the all-time longest winning streaks in NFL history.

Most recently, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs sniffed greatness with an 11-game regular season winning streak but that didn’t come close to making this list of the longest winning streaks in NFL history. They fell 4 games short of the top 14 streaks in NFL history.

There are multiple NFL franchises that appear on this list more than once, which says a lot about the longevity of those great franchises. The San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, and New England Patriots each appear multiple times below.

Only three winning streaks on the list of the all-time longest are really from a different era and two of those are from the Chicago Bears. For the most part, most of these winning streaks have come in the modern era which is fascinating. Now without further adieu, these are the 14 longest regular season winning streaks in NFL history.

Los Angeles Chargers (1960-61): 15 Games

First up on this list is the third-oldest squad in the rankings, the 1960-61 Los Angeles Chargers who had a 15-game winning streak over those two seasons.

The chargers would finish their 10-4 season w in 1960 with 4 straight wins and then come into the 1961 season unbeatable, reeling off 11 straight wins (including 2 shutouts) leading up to their bye week. Unfortunately, something must’ve been in the water during the bye week because they lost 2 of their 3 games after the break.

San Francisco 49ers (1989-90): 15 Games

This was the official heyday of the San Francisco 49ers. In 1989, they Niners were 14-2 and finished the regular season with 5 straight wins before going on to beat the Rams 30-3 to win Super Bowl XXIV.

Coming back to defend their title in 1990, the San Francisco 49ers kept their regular season NFL winning streak alive and pushed it to 15 games, winning 10 games in a row before falling to the LA Rams, whom they’d just beaten in Super Bowl XXIV, 17-28.

Green Bay Packers (2010-11): 15 Games

2010 marked the only time in Aaron Rodgers’ career he won the Super Bowl (and MVP), beating the Steelers 31-25 in Super Bowl XLV.

That run began with Green Bay winning their final 2 regular season games but they came back next season and were on fire, winning 13 games in a row to start the 2011 season before losing to the Chiefs in Week 15, the Packers’ only regular season loss that year.

San Francisco 49ers (2022-23): 15 Games

Back on the rankings again are the San Francisco 49ers who won 15 regular season games in a row over the 2022-23 seasons. San Francisco won 10 games in a row to close out the 2022 regular season, including one win at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

They would eventually lose in the NFL Championship to the Eagles but would come back in the 2023 regular season and keep the win streak alive, pushing it to 15 games after winning 5 in a row to start the season before losing to the Cleveland Browns of all teams in Week 6, a 17-19 loss.

Chicago Bears (1941-42): 16 Games

The second oldest regular season NFL win streak on this list are the 1941-42 Chicago Bears who won 16 straight regular season games over that span. Chicago only lost 1 game in 1941, in week 6, and finished with a 5-game winning streak.

In 1942, they picked up right where they left off and had a perfect 11-0 record on that season. They shut out teams in 4 games in 1942 and no team came within 14 points of their score.

Miami Dolphins (1971-73): 16 Games

The Miami Dolphins were on a heater in the early 1970s. Miami finished the 1971 season 10-3-1, winning their final regular season game to start the streak, and going deep in the playoffs before getting smacked by the Cowboys in Super Bowl VI, losing 3-24.

Coming back in 1972, just the Dolphins’ 7th season as a franchise, they went undefeated (14-0) in the regular season and went on to beat Washington 14-7 in Super Bowl VII. It was a truly perfect season.

The streak continued into 1973 when Miami won their Week 1 match up against San Francisco but it only lasted one week as they lost in Week 2 to the Raiders to end their winning streak at 16 games.

Miami Dolphins (1983-84): 16 Games

The 1983 Miami Dolphins were on a heater again, going 12-4 in the regular season for the best record in the AFC East. Their NFL Playoffs run would only last a week though, losing to the Seahawks in the Divisional Round (20-27).

The Phins finished the 83 regular season with 5 straight wins to get their streak going and came back in 1984 and won 11 games to start the season, pushing their regular season winning streak to 16 games. It came to a halt in Week 12 at Jack Murphy Stadium against the Chargers in a 28-34 overtime loss. Miami would go on to make the Super Bowl again but lose to the 49ers 16-38.

Pittsburgh Steelers (2004-05): 16 Games

Ben Roethlisbger’s first season with the Pittsburgh Steelers kicked off a historic win streak over the span of 2 season. The Steelers made it all the way to the 2004 AFC Championship before losing to the Patriots 27-41.

They only lost 1 game in 2004, in week 2, and had a 14-game regular season win streak going into 2004. They won two in a row to start the 2005 season before finally snapping the streak against the Patriots (20-23) at Heinz Field.

As a consolation prize, the Steelers would go on to win Super Bowl XL against the Seahawks 21-10 which is certainly better than maintaining a regular season winning streak.

Chicago Bears (1933-34): 17 Games

6. 17 games Chicago Bears (1933-34)

The oldest squad on this list are the 1933-34 Chicago Bears with a 17-game reuglar season NFL win streak. Chicago won 4 in a row to round out the 1933 NFL regular season, having only lost 2 games that season, and came back on a heater in 1934.

The Bears were undefeated in 1934, going a perfect 13-0 to push their regular season winning streak to 17 games which is amongst the longest in NFL regular season history.

Chicago’s streak was *this close* to being snapped in Week 10 against the Giants when they beat New York 10-9 at the NY Polo Grounds.

Denver Broncos (2012-13): 17 Games

5. 17 games Denver Broncos (2012-13)

The Denver Broncos managed to pull off 17 straight regular season wins over the 2012 and 2013 NFL seasons. Denver was 13-3 in the 2012 season before losing to Baltimore in the Divisional Playoffs. Their streak began with 11-straight regular season wins in 2012 under QB Peyton Manning after GM John Elway shipped Tim Tebow off to the Jets.

Coming back in 2013, Denver and Peyton picked up right where they left off and won 6 games in a row to push the streak to 6. Denver would finish the regular season 13-3 and go on to lose Super Bowl XLVIII to the Seahawks.

Peyton would eventually get his second Super Bowl win and first with Denver in 2015, winning Super Bowl 50 against Carolina.

New England Patriots (2003-04): 18 Games

Now we have entered the proper ‘Dynasty’ portion of the rankings. The 2003-04 New England Patriots pushed their win streak to 18 regular season games.

Tom Brady and the Patriots went 14-2 in both seasons, including a 12-game regular season win streak in 2003 that fed into a Super Bowl XXXVIII win against the Panthers, in Belichick’s 4th season as Pats head coach.

Coming back in 2004, New England began the season with a 6-game regular season winning streak before losing in Week 8 on Halloween to the Steelers at Heinz Field. It didn’t matter much though as Brady and the Pats would go on to win Super Bowl XXXIX against the Eagles (24-21).

Carolina Panthers (2014-15): 18 Games

The 2014-15 Carolina Panthers made history with an 18-game win streak that began with a 4-game win streak to finish out the 2014 NFL regular season. They’d win the Wild Card game before losing to Seattle in the Divisional Round but come back hungry in 2015.

Carolina started the 2015 NFL Regular Season with a 14-game winning streak before losing to the Falcons in Week 16, their only loss of the NFL Regular Season that year. Carolina would win the NFC Championship but lose to Peyton Manning and Denver in the Super Bowl.

New England Patriots (2006-08): 21 Games

Back on the list is Tom Brady with the New England Patriots. They won 21 regular season games over three seasons, from 2006 to 2008, for the second-longest regular season win streak in NFL history.

It all started with a 3-game regular season win streak to finish off the 2006 season. The Pats would make it to the AFC Championship only to lose to Peyton Manning and the Colts. In 2007 they would make history with an undefeated regular season, a perfect 16-0, the first to do so since the 1972 Miami Dolphins.

Eli Manning would stop Tom Brady from a perfect run, beating New England in Super Bowl XLII but Tom and the Pats would come back in 2008 to win their first two games to finish their regular season winning streak off at 21 games.

Indianapolis Colts (2008-09): 23 Games

Colts QB Peyton Manning

With the longest regular season win streak in NFL history we have the 2008-09 Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning. Indy won 9 straight games to finish off the 2008 regular season (but didn’t win their division), and went on to lose in overtime to the Chargers in their Wild Card match up.

Back for more in 2009, the Colts would win 14 straight games before losing their final 2 games of the regular season, a momentum killer. But they rebounded and made it all the way to Super Bowl XLIV before losing to the Saints.

All things considered, the longest NFL regular season win streak in history not having a Super Bowl trophy to show for it is a bit disappointing but it’s still NFL history and Peyton had already won a SB with Indy back in 2007, so this was on the heels of that success.
