Most sports bettors find it hard to resist the urge to throw some dough on a longshot parlay given how much money you can end up making if they hit. One guy who recently graduated from college has the chance to turn $13 into more than $270,000, but it hinges on the success of two teams that are currently competing for an NBA and NHL title.

There is no shortage of strategies you can turn to if you’re hoping to make a profit via sports betting, but there’s no better way to attempt to get rich quick than throwing together a parlay consisting of some wagers that don’t feature the most favorable odds.

Sportsbooks have plenty of incentive to encourage those multi-leg bets due to how much they tend to make compared to ones that rely on a single outcome, and they’re usually more than happy to draw attention to people who managed to turn a tiny sum into a relative fortune at their expense in the hopes of encourging others to attempt to defy the odds that ensure the house win in the long run.

That brings us to Drew Hirschman, who threw down $13 on a five-leg parlay last year through DraftKings that relied on the Liberty (+190), Dodgers (+300), Eagles (+1700), Oilers (+850), and Thunder (+850) winning the next title that was up for grabs with a potential return of exaclty $270,761.40

According to The New York Post, the 24-year-old (who is currently living with his parents while looking for a job after graduating from Binghamton University in May) only needs Edmonton and Oklahoma City to deliver after checking the first three boxes; Edmonton is sitting at +215 after losing Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final to the Panthers on Monday to fall into a 2-1 hole, while the Thunder are at -525 after evening up their NBA Finals showdown with the Pacers.

Hirschman says he’s turned down multiple people who have offered him over six figures to buy the ticket (including one that came in at $135,000 before it was rescinded), and he told the outlet he’s worked with his dad (who he described as a “math guy”) to dream up some hedges that have cost them around $50,000 but will presumably ensure he’ll be getting a verry solid return on his investment no matter what happens (he said the current ceiling is around $210,00).

Must be nice.
