Aaron Gordon was forced to miss a couple of games after ending up on the receiving end of a dog bite last month, and now, he’s blamed eggnog (and himself) for the injury that required him to get 21 stitches.

Plenty of professional athletes have been sidelined by ailments that had nothing to do with the sport they get paid to play, and Gordon ended up joining the list of NBA players who’ve been knocked out of action thanks to something that transpired off of the court after being bitten in the hand by a dog on Christmas.

Plenty of people were quick to assume the animal in question was a pit bull, but during a recent interview with The Denver Post, Gordon said it was a Rottweiller he got as a puppy four years ago that spends a fair amount of time with his family due to the travel demands that come with playing basketball for a living.

The Nuggets forward made it clear he didn’t place the blame on the “good boy” he described as “very sweet” “and “very strong” and was quick to pin the incident on himself (and a festive alcoholic beverage) for what transpired, saying:

“I don’t drink a lot during the season. I probably had a little bit too much eggnog.

I was kind of roughhousing with my dog, and I think my dog got a little excited and just basically chomped down. Gave me a bite. And I was basically wrestling him off of me, and then he bit my hand.

For lack of better words, I was f—— around with my dog, and when you f— around, you find out.”

Gordon recorded 14 points in the 32 minutes he recorded during Monday’s game between the Nuggets and the Hornets, and he seemed to have a sense of humor about the situation when you consider he was sporting a dog chain he received from Jamal Murray before the contest.

Well played.
